Product Overview  
The Intel® Q45 Express chipset provides the latest advancements  
in graphics, security and always-available manageability for  
embedded applications. When combined with Intel® Core™  
microarchitecture processors on 45nm and 65nm process  
technology, these platforms are ideal for developing high-  
performance systems for industrial control and automation,  
retail and hospitality, gaming, print imaging, digital signage,  
digital surveillance and network security applications.  
The Intel Q45 Express chipset has a built-in Intel® Graphics Media  
secured networks, add extra virus and agent present checks,  
Accelerator 4500 (Intel® GMA 4500) to deliver an excellent blend  
of graphics performance and features. The Graphics Memory Con-  
troller Hub (GMCH) incorporates an updated backbone architecture  
that optimizes available bandwidth with the 1333 MHz system bus,  
while Intel® Fast Memory Access reduces memory access latency  
to significantly increase overall system performance.

as measured launch and protected execution.  
The chipset provides energy-efficient performance, allowing  
designs to meet or exceed international power standards. An  
integrated Intel® Trusted Platform Module1 and enhancements to  
Intel® Active Management Technology2 (Intel® AMT) 5.0 support  
features such as remote alerts, secured access in Microsoft NAP*  
environments, access monitor, “fast call for help,” and remote  
schedule maintenance. The chipset supports embedded  
operating systems such as Microsoft Windows Embedded XP,*  
Windows Vista,* Microsoft WEPOS* and Linux*.  
For embedded applications, such as a network of point-of-sale  
machines or digital signage in a retail environment, Intel AMT 5.0  
(available on Intel Core 2 Quad processor Q9400 or Intel Core 2  
Duo processor E8400) and Intel® Standard Manageability  
(available on all other supported processors) provide for  
communication between the server/console and remote clients.  
Always-available manageability allows end customers to remotely  
diagnose problems, collect hardware and software inventory  
data on the system regardless of its power or health state, and  
deploy patches to systems that are turned off. To enhance  
energy efficiency, systems may be powered down without losing  
manageability or securely powered on any time for patches and  
system maintenance.3  
Security and Manageability  
The Intel Q45 Express chipset and Intel Core microarchitecture-  
based platforms help simplify security and manageability while  
reducing management and maintenance costs. For example, end  
customers can now manage systems in endpoint access control  
to 3 Gb/s. The Advanced Host Controller Interface (AHCI) provides  
easier expandability with support for eSATA devices and native  
hot plug, while boosting boot and multi-tasking performance with  
native command queuing. In addition, the Intel ICH10DO provides  
support for RAID levels 0, 1, 5, and 10, enabling greater reliability  
for data and improved storage performance.  
DDR3 Memory  
While maintaining support for DDR2 memory, the chipset  
supports dual-channel DDR3 memory technology at  
1066 MHz. This offers peak data transfer rates of up  
to 17 GB/s when operated in dual-channel interleaved  
mode, resulting in approximately 20 percent lower power  
consumption and reduced heat dissipation over DDR2.4  
Intel® Rapid Recover Technology: With the ability to boot  
off a clone, this technology provides a fast, easy-to-use  
method for the end user to recover data and return a system  
to operational status.  
Intel® I/O Controller Hub 10DO  
The Intel® I/O Controller Hub ICH10DO (Intel® ICH10DO)  
integrates several capabilities to provide flexibility for  
connecting I/O devices.  
Intel® Quiet System Technology: Helps reduce system  
noise and heat through more intelligent system fan speed  
control algorithms.  
Intel® Matrix Storage Technology5 (Intel® MST): When  
combined with native support of external SATA ports  
Intel® Trusted Platform Module 1.2 (Intel® TPM): Customer  
may choose to replace the discrete TPM with Intel TPM, providing  
a higher level of integration, simplifying board layouts and  
reducing BOM cost.  
(eSATA), Intel MST provides flexibility to add an external drive  
for increased data storage with up to six times faster perfor-
